Know Thy God (Exodus 5:1 - 7:7)

In Exodus 5, Pharaoh says that he does not know God. Exodus 6-7, God tells Moses that after he has performed great acts to redeem Israel from captivity, both the Egyptians and Israelites will know God. What does it mean to know God? Why is that important? And what does knowing God mean for us today?
